the foundation

The foundation was being laid.
The men worked hard night and day.
When all of a sudden construction stopped.

The bricks of the foundation laid,
the plans seemed chopped.
It was as if this masterpiece of architecture
would never be built.
It was a rest taking a hit
from the bleak heat and weather undressed.

Where did the builders go?
Did they give up?
Did they throw it all in?

They seemed to have let their work sit unfinished.
A failed attempt at their vision.
Yet off in the distance sounds of axes hit stone.
The workers were down in a whole.

They went to the rock quarry.
For construction had halted
with their depleted supply.
So they had to dig deeper this time.

They dug and chiseled through the day,
breaking the rock of the earth
in order to carry stones away.
They had not given up on their work.

The vision remained.
It was time to dig and find their resources,
so that they may come back with the hard material.
They were to make the foundation stonger and better,

for the architectural grand piece of art.
So it may stand high and tall,
proud in the sky,
reaching the heights divine.
